Chocolate Sheet Cake

Ingredients

Cake

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cube margarine
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda, add to milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vinegar, add to milk

Frosting

  • 1 cube margarine
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup (if desired) chopped nuts

Instructions

Cake

  1. Mix flour and sugar in bowl.
  2. Place in saucepan margarine, cocoa, shortening, and water and bring just to boil, stirring.
  3. Add to flour & sugar and mix well.
  4. Add eggs, vanilla, and milk and mix until smooth.
  5. Grease and flour large pan 10” by 15” and pour in batter.
  6. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

Frosting

  1. Start about 5 minutes before cake is done.
  2. Heat in microwave margarine, milk, and cocoa until margarine melts.
  3. Remove and stir in 4 cups powdered sugar, vanilla p, and chopped nuts if desired.
  4. Spread in cake when it comes from the oven.
